Post-installed rebar connections are an integral component for all construction projects. They work differently compared to post-installed anchors and can only be designed as such assuming a concrete strut prevents cone breakout. An internal best practice assessment document (EAD) exists to qualify post-installed rebar as cast-in bars and this qualified system ensures the safety and longevity of your designs. Fire is relevant to all rebar connections and an important characteristic when it comes to rebar design in Singapore. In the Eurocode framework, fire design is explicitly considered and the ETA allows the calculation of reduced bond strength through a reduction factor. We will be going through the behavior of reinforced concrete under fire, the general principles of fire design using EC2-1 and 2, ETA parameters affecting the design and solutions for post-installed rebar.

A common challenge faced by consultants, specifiers and contractors when it comes to rebar connections is moment design. Under EN1992-1, structures are designed without moment which may not be realistic. Hilti is proud to present a new regulatory framework covered under the European Regulatory framework, TR-069. TR-069 provides a new assessment of bond-splitting behavior under realistic conditions. It enables a regulated design of moment-resisting concrete connections not covered under EN1992-1.
