Hello Clement,
For an existing curtailed slab which has simply supported connection, only the bottom rebars are in tension while there is no tension zone at the top and end of the slab.
In case we need to extend this slab in continuation with wall/column at bottom with post installed rebars, the tension zone will get created at the top of slab equivalent to L/4 length on both sides of the wall/column. Accordingly, the post installed rebar embedment depth should be achieved beyond the tension stress area to “cover the line of acting tension” i.e. beyond the tension stress area as shown in the attached figure.
