Firestop mortar advantage over concrete
What is the advantage of using firestop mortar as compared to concrete in closing annular gaps for thru penetration pipes?

Thank you for your query.
When normal concrete is applied to close an opening it forms a cold joint. This cold joint is formed primarily between two layers of concrete when the second layer is placed after the setting of the first layer. This poor bond between two batches of concrete create a weak zone, with potential voids. Hence, in order to avoid this we recommend to use firestop mortar.
