Effect of styropor as backing material on joint sealant.
For firestop on construction joint application, would there be any effect on the performance/effect (adhesion of styropor on sealant) if styropor would be used as the backing material?

Hi John,
Unfortunately, we do not have a tested system with styropor as backfilling material in construction joints. Hence, we cannot give any comment on this application as we do not have any data on the performance of Hilti firestop sealants with styropor.
We would recommend using mineral wool, fiber glass or polyurethane/polyethylene foam backer rod for the backfilling material with sealant as given in test certificates.
