Concrete Edge Failure _ Shear

Concrete Edge Failure _ Shear

We are currently designing one shear connection of Stee beam to RC column. Based on the recommended loads it can pass but we put in the software with 6M20 chemical anchor bolts, for shear, Concrete edge failure is 100% (this bolt is 135mm from the column edge). Then we tried with 4 M24 bolts with 150mm from the edge of the column, for this software indicated the Concrete Edge failure 98%. How we can reduce it? I kindly request to guide on this connection design issue.

Hi Kanjana,

Profis Engineering shows the most optimized result for anchor design
due to which it calculates embedment depth such as the utilization of anchor as
well as concrete is maximum. Increasing embedment will help in reducing the
concrete edge breakout utilization percentage. Refer table shown for different
embedment depth and their utilization.

For M20 Anchor

Embedment depth - 148 mm
Utilization - 100%

Embedment depth - 200 mm
Utilization - 95%

For M24 Anchor

Embedment depth - 98 mm
Utilization - 98%

Embedment depth - 150 mm
Utilization - 91%
