Power equipment manufacturing

Improved, more cost-effective design and installation for power equipment manufacturers

Today’s power equipment manufacturing industry is increasingly competitive. Modularized and containerized solutions for power grid stations, distributed power generation or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) come with a continuously increasing level of optimization. To maintain market share, large global players are reducing costs and improving equipment design with a focus on modularization and standardization.

Choose modular solutions from Hilti to reduce your reliance on prefabricated steel and welding, along with the associated problems of low repeatability, lack of standardization, limited supplier integration, long lead times and potentially dangerous hot works. From innovative design software and hardware, through to BIM services, engineering support for optimization, jobsite training and pre-assembly, we can offer you a complete, end-to-end partnership on a global scale.

Electrical bonding and earthing

More reliable, durable and flexible non-weld solutions for increased productivity

Grounding, electrical bonding and earthing are all activities that have traditionally relied on slow and expensive welding, grinding and touch-up. Hilti offers a range of highly productive and flexible solutions to suit site-specific needs. For example, grounding can be achieved using threaded studs, quickly installed by lightweight fastening tools. Blunt tipped fasteners are available for applications where no through-penetration of paint is allowed. Unlike clamps, these safety relevant connections don’t vibrate loose, giving you a safe, reliable and durable electrical connection that requires no maintenance.

Fastening on steel

Faster, more reliable alternatives to welding for your projects

Fastening onto steel is integral to power equipment manufacturing. Traditionally, many installations have been slow, expensive and labour intensive. Requiring welding, hot work permits and additional fire watch personnel, these cumbersome solutions also require lengthy post-work touch-ups. Our portfolio of multi-purpose steel fasteners and anchors, coupled with powder or battery actuated fastening tools, offers a fast, cost-effective alternative to welding. Quick to install, there are solutions to suit site-specific needs, such as blunt-tip checker grate fasteners which don’t penetrate paint, plus products for fastening switchboxes and running single cables or cable bundles. Solutions are also available for the installation of electrical panels, stands, lights and transformers.

Fastening on concrete

High-performance anchoring solutions, backed up with approvals

When fastening to concrete, productivity, safety and cost are all critical factors. Vibration, seismic, environmental, and fire resistance conditions must be taken into account. Hilti is a full anchoring solution provider offering a wide range of mechanical and chemical post-installed anchors and cast-in channels. Requiring no welding and no embedment plates, the correct choice of anchors can give you additional flexibility and increased performance. PROFIS anchor design software helps make it simpler to select anchors with the correct approvals and load calculations for your applications. Cordless rotary drills and hammers make installation faster and easier. Diamond drilling tools make cutting through rebar simpler and almost dust-free. Because designing and installing anchored solutions is so much faster, you can make last-minute design changes with minimal cost and hassle.

Modular cable supports

Flexible management solutions for high, medium and low-voltage cables

A short circuit in high-voltage cables can suddenly unleash extreme mechanical forces, pushing cables violently apart and causing major damage to infrastructure and threatening life. Traditionally engineered cable management solutions require intensive planning and rely on inflexible, slow-to-install equipment such as waterfall supports or heavy-load cable trays. Hilti modular cable support systems offer an adaptable and safer alternative for high, medium and low voltage cables. Patented stainless steel SmartCleats® with optional pads and inserts ensure that cables are held tightly by smooth surfaces and are not damaged by installation or a short-circuit event. Comprehensively tested to IEC 61914 standards, the SmartCleat® can be used with Hilti cable ladder systems and is DNV certified to meet standards of strength, flexibility and protection. Hilti engineering support is available to ensure optimal design, helping to reduce arching, deformation and stretch of cables in the event of a short circuit.

Modular piping supports

Simplify non-critical piping installation for power equipment manufacturers

You can not only bring the benefits of Hilti modular support systems to cabling, but also to a wide range of non-critical piping. Examples in substations include sprinkler systems, water cooling, or fuel pipes in modular distributed generation units. It can enable optimized solutions to integrate the routing of multiple systems, again without the need for slow, expensive welding or lifting equipment. As with cabling, the flexibility of modular piping systems makes late-stage design changes simpler and more cost-effective.

Passive fire protection and sealing

Innovative fire safety and sealing for cable transit systems

Hilti cable transit systems can also take care of grounding and EMC functionality. Innovative solutions mean that fire safety no longer relies on messy, old-fashioned mortar board and grout firestopping. Instead, more flexible and easier-to-install products such as firestop sleeves, collars and bandages, along with cast-in devices and cavity barriers can be used to protect your through-penetrations. Our solutions comply with the strictest and newest standards, helping simplify compliant power equipment design and installation. Expert support and engineering judgements are available for your projects.
