What is the best communication to customer when discussing the difference of Cold smoke seal EJ vs EJ with fire rating?
Hi Jerico,
The cold smoke seal only restricts the spread of cold smoke and does not provide any fire/integrity rating (F-rating) to the system. The purpose of smoke seals is to limit, but not totally eliminate, the movement of cold smoke from one compartment or space to another. Cold smoke seals are not generally able to prevent the passage of higher temperature smoke which may cause some cold smoke seals to melt. However, at higher temperatures the intumescent seals activate to limit, but not eliminate the movement of hot smoke.
In summary, cold smoke seals are designed to prevent the spread of smoke only and are usually used in areas where fire resistance is not a major concern. Whereas, fire rated seals are designed to prevent the spread of both
smoke and fire.
Hope this clarifies.
